BOONEVILLE, Miss.,--Southaven High School's Madison Rust signed an agreement to play for the Northeast tennis team for the 2012-13 season at a signing ceremony held on Friday, May 11 in Southaven.

Rust was a multi-sport athlete for the Lady Chargers as a standout in cross-country, track and field, soccer, swim team, ice hockey (club-level) and of course . . . tennis.

"I am thrilled to be able to sign with Northeast to play tennis," said Rust.  After playing all these sports for all these years it has been tough but now I know I can just focus on tennis and that should be fun."

When Rust had time to focus on tennis, she excelled and was able to post a 5-1 district single play record along with a 3-0 non-district record and a 1-0 state tournament team record while at Southaven.

"Its exciting to be able to focus on tennis and get better at it and hopefully help out Coach (Lynn) Smither at Northeast," Rust explained.

"We are all glad to see that Madison has selected to play tennis after participating in all these sports," explained Southaven's head tennis coach Bob Sedge.  She is such a great athlete and we are glad that she will pursue tennis as she goes off to college."
