TIGERS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY WITH SWEEP OVER COAHOMA

Booneville, MS – Northeast opened up conference play on Thursday with a pair of wins at the Plex over Coahoma with the home Tigers showing efficiency on the mound and at the plate to grab an 11-0 win in game one and an 11-2 win in game two.

Reigning MACCC Player of the Week Hank Eaton started on the mound in game one and pitched a shutout while allowing only three hits throughout seven innings. Northeast got on the board early in the first and piled on in the second with Kieran Coleman sending a double to right center to drive in a pair of runs that was followed by a two-run homer from Conner McKnatt to grow the score to 5-0. A 2-RBI single through the right side added another pair of runs in the fourth while a pair of big hits from Cooper Davis and Austin Spears drove in enough runs to force the mercy rule in seven innings.

Key Stats from Game 1:

  • Eaton pitched a shutout game in game one while striking out four batters and allowing only three hits through seven innings.
  • Collin Flurry went perfect at the plate with two hits in two at bats and recorded a pair of runs and an RBI.
  • McKnatt recorded the only home run of the game to go with 2-RBI while Coleman, Eaton, and Davis all recording 2-RBI as well.

On the mound in game two for Northeast was Matthew Osteen who also pitched a complete game and opened the first by retiring three straight batters while NEMCC scored three runs in the bottom for a quick 3-0 lead. Coleman and McKnatt each connected on RBI singles in the second and Eaton stepped up to hammer out a 3-RBI double to propel Northeast ahead 8-0 before Coahoma scored their first run of the day in the top of the third. Another run by the opposing Tigers in the fifth trimmed the gap to six but grew back off a sacrifice fly from Spears to drive in Easton Fesmire who singled in the sixth to grow the lead to 11-2 where the score remained after a double play by Northeast wrapped up the series with a sweep.
