BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College men's golf team rallied during the second round of the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) third tour stop at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Wesson.
Northeast improved its position by 13 strokes from the first round to the second round as the Tigers surged for their best finish during the 2013 season.
Northeast's 13-stroke improvement helped the Tigers bounce by Jones County Junior College and finish seventh in the third tour stop of the year.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Corinth's Blake Farris who shaved eight strokes off his first to second round scores for a two-round 156 (82-74).
Farris finished the first round in a tie for thirty-seventh (37) but concluded the tournament in twentieth (20) place overall with his eight-stroke improvement.
Booneville's Jay Swinney followed Farris' lead and shaved five strokes from his first round 83 to finish with a two-round 161 while New Albany's Peyton Dunlap finished in a tie for thirty-third (33) and just one stroke behind Swinney with a 162 (78-84).
Former Baldwyn Bearcats Jordan Wilson and Ty Lindsey helped the Tigers rally by the Bobcats with an eight-stroke improvement combined.
Wilson fired an 80 during the second round at Wolf Hollow and finished with a two-round 166 while Lindsey was two strokes behind Wilson with a 168.
After finishing eighth in its first two events of the year and a seventh place finish at Wolf Hollow, the Tigers will play an 18-hole affair at the North Creek Golf Club on March 25 before heading over to Wedgewood Golf Course in Olive Branch on March 26 to wrap up the next MACJC tour stop of the year.
Northeast's fifth MACJC tour stop of the year will see the Tigers stay above the Interstate 20 corridor as head coach Nick Coln and company head to East Mississippi for two days on the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville April 7-8.
Following its tour stop on April 7-8, the Tigers will have a week to prepare for the MACJC State Tournament hosted by Jones County Junior College.
This year's state tournament is slated for April 14-15 at Dixie Golf Course in Laurel with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XXIII Tournament following the next week on the Azaleas Golf Course at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia.
