BOONEVILLE, Miss. - A pair of record setters are being recognized for their contributions to two of Northeast Mississippi Community College's newest sports programs.
Reese Moore and Ryder Warhurst are the Northeast athletes of the month presented by Booneville's Guaranty Bank for October 2025.
Moore was elected by her teammates before the start of volleyball season as one of two captains alongside Sophie Johnson. She lived up to the expectations by breaking the program mark for most kills in one year.
She concluded her sophomore campaign with 423 kills, which was only five more than fellow outside hitter Eliza Whitenton. They both shattered the previous record of 284 that was set by current University of Tennessee Southern standout Irby Norris just one season ago.
The Tishomingo County High School graduate also topped the Lady Tigers with a solid .180 hitting percentage. Moore averaged 3.2 points and three kills per set while totaling 35 blocks for the entire year as well.
Moore had double-digit kills in 13 of Northeast's 16 matches during the month of October. She registered a career-best 22 kills in a neutral site victory over Southwest Mississippi Community College at the Alabama Gulf Coast Classic.
"I just tried my hardest every game to do what it took for my team to win," said Moore. "It's really fun getting to hit (the ball) really hard and your team is hyping you up. Everybody's got your back is the best part."
Warhurst was responsible for the best time for the men's cross country team at all six of its meets. That includes the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 22 championships on October 24th.
The Alcorn Central High School alumnus posted an 8K time of 28:40.2 at John Hunt Park. His efforts helped the Tigers finish as the runner-up among entrants from the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).
Warhurst made history earlier this fall by becoming the first runner from either the men's or women's programs to record a top five result in a regular season event. He came in at fifth on the dot at the Freed-Speed Invitational with a season-best of 27:43.1.
He approached his personal mark again three weeks later at the On Twilight on PR'ville with a 27:47.56. Warhurst opened his freshman campaign with a 22:28.6 in the four-mile race at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic.
"I was curious on how I'd do in the 8K and if I'd be able to stay competitive. I think for the most part I did," Warhurst said. "I think it was a good foundation for my first year of collegiate running. There's definitely some things to work on, but overall a solid start."
