Northeast Mississippi Community College's softball program will host its annual high school showdown on Friday, March 15 at Booneville City Park.

Sixteen teams are set to hit the first four fields at Booneville's Westside City Park with games starting at 11 a.m.

Teams from five of the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) six classifications are set to compete in the 2013 Ninth Annual High School Showdown along with four team teams from Tennessee and Colbert County from Leighton, Alabama.

Saltillo represents MHSAA's Class 5A while three teams from Class 4A will make their appearance in the early part of the tournament – Itawamba, Senatobia and Tishomingo County.

Four teams from Class 3A – all from Northeast's five-county district – are also slated to be part of the tournament. Alcorn Central, Belmont, Booneville and Kossuth help represent the largest classification at the one-day affair.

Baldwyn's Lady Bearcats are the only Class 2A team in the tournament while Wheeler and West Union represent Class 1A.

Tennessee send four teams to the tournament as Adamsville and McNairy Central make the short drive to Booneville and Brighton and Wooddale enter from the Memphis metropolitan area.

Play begins at 11 a.m. with the final game of the final games of the day slated to hit the four fields at 6:30 p.m.
