BOONEVILLE, Miss. –  Northeast Mississippi Community College outfielder Andrea Cutts of Ackerman may have a blackened eye but the Lady Tiger sophomore did not let the injury slow her down.

After bunting a ball off her eye against Calhoun (Ala.) Community College on March 14, Cutts came back just two days later with a swollen left eye and led the Lady Tigers to a sweep of Mississippi Delta Community College.

For her effort during the week of March 11-15, Cutts was honored as the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) Softball Player of the Week.

"Andrea is a competitor," said Lady Tiger head coach Jody Long. "Even though she had an injury, she had the mentality on Saturday of 'I'm not sick,' and went out and played."

In the sweep of the Mississippi Delta, Cutts was 4-for-7 against the Lady Trojans with a home run, two runs batted in and scored four runs herself all while wearing a protective cage on her helmet.

Cutts was also a threat on the bases against the Lady Trojans with a stolen base.

Cutts' solo home run in the first game against Mississippi Delta was the Ackerman native's first home run of the season after leading the Lady Tigers in 2012 with six home runs during their MACJC state runner-up season.

While Cutts was 4-for-7 against the Lady Trojans, it was the Northeast sophomore's yeoman's effort during a six-game stretch from March 13-16 that earned her Northeast's second MACJC Player of the Week award for the young season.

"She is an outstanding leader on our team and leads by example with her work ethic and commitment," Long said. "I could not be prouder. I cannot think of someone that is more deserving of this award than Andrea Cutts."

In six games spanning March 11-17, Cutts led the Lady Tigers to a 3-3 mark overall but more importantly a 3-1 record in the North Division and in all six games, the Ackerman native recorded a hit.

Cutts went 4-for-7 with three runs scored as the Lady Tigers split with the Lady Bulldogs from Holmes Community College on March 13.

After going 1-for-3 in the opening game against Calhoun Community College on March 14, Cutts was limited to just one at bat in the nightcap after fouling a bunt attempt off her left cheek in the third inning against the Lady Warhawks however, Cutts made her first at bat count with a single to right field.

Cutts becomes the second Lady Tiger to win the MACJC Player of the Week award during the 2013 season.

Sophomore pitcher Erin Dixson earned the award the first week it was given for her work during the week of February 18-24.
