#20 TIGERS EARN KEY MACCC SWEEP OVER BULLDOGS
Booneville, MS – #20 Northeast picked up a pair of key conference wins on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over Mississippi Gulf Coast where the Tigers shut out the Bulldogs in game one 12-0 for a run rule win before edging out a game two win 9-8 off a pair of home runs from Chloe Skelton and Sophie Gant.
Game one kicked off with quick scoring hits for the Tigers led off by a 2-RBI double from Tatum Berry to give Northeast a 2-0 lead in the second inning. A wild pitch in the third allowed Skelton to steal home while a throwing error from Gulf Coast allowed Berry and Gant to score making the lead 5-0 after three. Seven runs for the Tigers in the top of the fourth stretched their lead to double figures with Adin Shelton kicking things off with an RBI double to left center followed by a 2-RBI single from Ab McKay to put the score in run rule territory before stealing home on another wild pitch. Capping off the inning for Northeast was Kendall Bragg who hammered out a three-run homer to right field to make it a 12-0 ball game that Gulf Coast could not respond to as the Tigers took game one.
Key Stats from Game 1:
- Gant records her 14th win of the season in the circle with only two hits allowed in five innings of action.
- Bragg went 2-for-3 at the plate with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth innings while McKay went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and two RBI.
McKay put runs on the board early in game two for Northeast with a 2-RBI double to left field to open the top of the first inning for a quick Tiger lead. A wild pitch and throwing error for Gulf Coast allowed Skelton and McKay to steal home for a 3-0 lead to head to the bottom of the inning where the Bulldogs responded with a trio of runs of their own to lock up the score at 3-3. A two-run bomb by Gant in the top of the third put Northeast back in front by a pair while a sacrifice fly from Bragg allowed Berry to find home to once again make it a three-run lead that was matched once more in the bottom of the inning to enter the fourth tied at 6-6. Skelton knocked out a two-run dinger to push ahead with another wild pitch by the Bulldogs allowing Ava Elliott to score for a 9-6 lead in the fifth. Despite a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, the Tigers held on to their lead 9-8 the rest of the way with key defensive plays helping to complete the sweep with a double play in the bottom of the seventh for the first two outs and a timely strikeout from reigning MACCC Pitcher of the Week Emma Abrams to wrap up the day.

- Berry was the only Tiger to record multiple hits with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate while Gant tallied 3-RBI thanks in part to her two-run homer in the third inning.
#20 Northeast improves to 34-10 overall on the 2026 season and 11-9 in MACCC action following their doubleheader sweep. They will be back in action on Wednesday with a road doubleheader against #14 Itawamba with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM before returning home on Saturday against #6 Jones.
