BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College head tennis coach Lynn Smither continues to build a Lady Tiger tennis team for the 2012-13 season.

Smither added one of the area's top tennis players when North Pontotoc's Molly Falkner agreed to become a Lady Tiger during a signing ceremony held Wednesday, June 13 inside the media room of the Haney Union on the Northeast Booneville campus.

"I excited about playing tennis and have learned a lot from tennis," Falkner said. "I hope to continue learning here at Northeast."

During her varsity campaign, Falkner was a member of the Lady Viking tennis program that competed in Region 2-4A against New Albany, Lafayette County, Senatobia, Rosa Fort and Lewisburg.

Under North Pontotoc's Felecia Holcomb, Falkner clocked time as one of two players at the number two doubles position for the Ecru-based school.

However, Falkner made her choice to come to Northeast based on more than athletics.

"I've loved tennis since I was in middle school and want to be a nurse," Falkner said. "(Northeast) has an excellent nursing program. That's one of the main decisions I had."

When not busy on the tennis courts in Ecru and Pontotoc, Falkner also found time in the classroom to earn awards in leadership and academics as well as Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

With Falkner's signing, Smither has signed six student-athletes for the 2012-13 Lady Tiger tennis team including Jessica Jones of DeSoto Central, Southaven's Madison Rust and a trio of Belmont Lady Cardinals Valerie Mitchell and twins Allison and Emily Wiltshire.
