Booneville, MS – Four Tigers reached double figures in a shootout win over #19 Jones this past Monday with Northeast shooting 58% from long range to edge out the Bobcats in an instant thriller.
Ezekiel Udozorh got the Tigers on the board early, scoring the first seven points of the game for Northeast while Javion Stephen cashed in a pair of deep shots from three to keep the score within one mid-way through the first. A triple by Buddy Spearman pushed the Tigers out in front with Udozorh adding three the old fashion way to grow the lead to 26-21. Every shot from beyond the arc seemed to land for Northeast with Stephen adding in another to go with a pair of threes from Michael Johnson and Zane Tipler to keep it a one-point game entering the break with Jones leading 46-45.
Following halftime, it was the Bobcats who caught fire quickly to extend their lead to six but a triple by Johnson and a few quick scores at the rim from Udozorh followed by a layup from Johnson gave the Tigers their first lead of the half. Spearman drained a pair from beyond the arc to increase Northeast's lead to nine and with three minutes left he draned his fourth of the game to give the Tigers all the momentum. A final three by Stephen helped lock up the win for Northeast with the Tigers sinking some late free throws to clinch the upset win over the #19 ranked team in the NJCAA.
